Best of Tallinn with lunch

DURATION: 5,5 hours

TOUR PROGRAM:

The tour begins with a coach trip from the harbour to the Kadriorg Park, the main recreation area of Tallinn, founded by Peter the Great in honor of his wife Catherine. You will walk through the park to a beautiful baroque palace - once the summer residence of the Russian czars, now the Museum of European Art. After the visit to the Upper Garden you will return to the coach. Next stop will be on the Song Festival Grounds, where the famous Estonian song festivals held since 1869 take place - a splendid view over the sea and the Old Town of Tallinn and a marvelous place for a photo stop. The tour continues to the Pirita suburb, with the ruins of the St. Birgitta's Convent from 16th century. The tour passes the Forest Cemetery, where distinguished Estonians are laid to rest, to the beachside location of the yachting complex built for the 1980 Olympic Regatta.

The coach takes you to the upper part of the Old Town. After the disembarking at the Tall Hermann Tower a short walk takes you to the Palace Square with the Parliament House and the Russian Orthodox Church (1900). After visiting the church you will stroll through the narrow cobblestone lanes to the St. Mary's Cathedral (1233). Valuable coats of arms of noble families and tombstones of some world known persons are worth visiting. After a short walk you can admire a picturesque view of the Lower Town with its towers and steeples rising above the cluster of red-tiled roofs.

You will walk down the Short Leg Lane to the Lower Town, passing the St. Nicholas Church, the Holy Ghost Church, the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads and some medieval guild houses. The walking tour ends on the Town Hall Square followed by a lunch in one of the Old Town restaurants. During the tour there are a lot of shopping possibilities in the Old Town, for instance craft workshops in Catherine's Passage and Müürivahe Knitwear Market.

At the appointed time the coach drives you back to the ship.
